Right now I’m working hard on finishing up Sequelitis Episode 2: Mega Man vs. Mega Man X.
This episode will be a lot more positive. My goal with Sequelitis and any subsequent game analysis shows is to teach people to respect games more, while still reminding people that games are games, and are meant to be enjoyed. The first episode of Sequelitis was heavily negative and preachy, and I decided to take a more appreciative approach.
Of course, it’s still hilarious and still very informative.
I have mentioned before on my Twitter that Sequelitis will also get some short 2-4 minute amendments to existing episodes. I already have one planned for Episode 1, and I think it’ll be a nice way to continue discussion, as well as answer a few questions or go into more detail about the first episodes.
Here’s the line-up I have planned for Sequelitis:
Episode 1 Amendment: Super Castlevania 4
Possible Episode 2 Amendment: Mega Man X4
Episode 3: Zelda: A Link to the Past vs. Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Episode 4: Metal Gear Solid vs. Metal Gear Solid 2
Those are the solid ideas I have, with things already written up. They might not come exactly in that order as I don’t have capture software completely set up yet, I’m mostly using emulators for now.
I actually haven’t thought too much about additional episodes, I’ve mostly been focusing on writing the ideas I have now, so if you’d like to see particular episodes of Sequelitis, let me know, and I’ll seriously consider it.
I’m looking mostly for sequels that really have something to say. Mega Man 2 vs. Mega Man 3 for example is not a good episode, as there are only very slight changes to balance and other things that aren’t really worth making an interesting, funny episode about.
I chose MGS and MGS2 because of their extremely strong thematic links with each other. MGS2 is constantly referencing MGS in its design and uses the player’s preconceived notions to manipulate their emotions.
I chose Link to the Past vs. Ocarina because of its smooth transition from 2D to 3D keeping the feel intact greatly, and also for its straightforward design choices, in that it doesn’t waste any time with any game elements.
I want to have Episode 2 out before Halloween because filming for The Tester starts immediately afterwards.
I’m also working on an awesome pokemon flash that I think you’re really gunna like. That should be out next month too, and hopefully I’ll have a workflow that’ll be a bit more consistent. Everything’s been so dry lately because I moved, and the moving process has taken a lot of energy.
Thanks guys, hope you enjoy what’s in store. :)
